\r\nI see the vessels as ‘individuals’ (each one is unique, through the varying methods of altering which I use) and wished to explore the theme of group dynamics. The way in which the vessels are placed in relation to each other can affect how they are viewed and responded to (ie. Facing each other, ignoring each other, protecting each other etc.). A definite inspiration was Antony Gormley’s ‘Field for the British Isles’, which I saw in London in the 1990’s and which evoked a strong personal response and left a lasting impression. I researched different structures and shapes which may aid the arrangement and ‘storytelling’ of the theme. Protective structures such as ringforts which are scattered across our landscape began to have a strong influence. The visual power of the circles and the way they enclose and offer protection to those inside provides a valuable structural tool to convey my ideas.
